What financial self care really is and how to make it work for you

You probably have a few favorite things you do for your own self care. But did you know that self care can also apply to your money? Financial self care is something that is often overlooked, but when you put it into action for yourself, it can change everything.

Now you might be wondering what financial self-care really is, and what it takes to make it work for you.

Financial self-care is simply making time for your money the way you make time for health, relationships, and personal growth.

I know, that might sound like just “one more thing” to add to your already long to-do list. And after all, you’re busy. There’s businesses, careers, families, friends, relationships, and of course finding time for yourself. Isn’t what you’re doing for “self-care” right now enough?

Trust me, I get that. But, here’s the good news…

Financial self care steps don’t take that much time. Even better is that many of them actually overlap with other self-care practices you might already be using. So it could turn out to be more bang for your self care buck!

Most of all, these steps don’t have to be fancy or complicated. They’re all SUPER simple. Because the truth is this…

Building a strong financial foundation starts with the small steps that you repeat every day.

Use these steps when you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed with money. Or, simply set aside a few moments each day to practice them as a part of your daily routine.

Let’s get into an example of a simple practice that you can start using any time (including right now…)

First, remember that the goal of any financial self-care practice is simply to do these three things…

Observe, improve, and communicate.

That’s all. No need to dig deep into your P&L report right now. No need to come up with your next big investment or debt reduction strategy, either. Just ONE small step.

Now, here’s how to begin…

Plant your feet on the ground, or sit comfortably. Begin to focus on your breath. Then recite this mantra:

Today, I release the pressure to have it all figured out. I choose one small action, because one small action is enough to change the direction of my future.

Then repeat these money mantras…

I don’t have to solve everything today.

My worth is not measured by my bank account.

I spend money in ways that reflect my values.

Pro tip: If you have another favorite money mantra or mantras, or one that calls to you at this moment, feel free to use it instead.

When you’re feeling grounded and centered, choose a small action step you can take now.

Here are 3 simple financial self-care action steps you can take this week:

1- Sign in to your bank account and simply observe. No judgment, just look.

2- Write down one financial win you’ve had this month. Even if it’s a tiny one. Then read it back to yourself.

3- Schedule a financial date with your partner or bestie.

It might not sound like much, but these are the small steps that lead to big change.

Give this simple financial self-care practice a try, and watch how your money situation begins to shift in the direction that you desire!

Now, have you tried these or any other financial self-care steps? Tell me about it in the comments below! I’d love to hear what your favorite action steps are!

AND, until next time…

Love, light, and MONEY, Honey…
