The secret ingredient that makes your money mindset work
How can you make your money mindset actually work? It’s a question I get a lot, and I can understand why. Money mindset is such a big deal, but sometimes making it work can be trickier than it needs to be.
Because with money mindset, it takes a lot more than simply repeating a money mantra or an affirmation from your favorite life coach and hoping for the best. And although I LOVE money mantras and they are very powerful, it’s about more than just repeating pretty words.
It’s a secret ingredient that you might be aware of as a concept, but one that you might not realize is such a potent boost to how you think and feel about money.
But let’s start with defining what mindset is.
Mindset is simply your perspective. It’s how your mind interprets your world, both your inner and outer world. And we all interpret the world differently. My reality is not your reality. We all see things in a unique way. Everyone has different skills, different ways of learning.
However, we all create our mindsets out of how we perceive and interpret life. This is true for everyone, and it was definitely true for me.
Mindset was a huge issue for me when I began on my money journey.
I’ve been an accountant since 2006, and a student of yoga and meditation since my teen years. When I figured out how powerfully these things went together, it changed everything for me.
But it wasn’t something I discovered right away, and it took me awhile to connect the dots!
I can tell you quite honestly that money mindset was a big thing for me at the beginning of my personal wealth journey. My perspective on money was never very supportive in the past. For example, for literally years I believed that wealth just wasn’t for me. Sure, it was for everyone else, but not for me.
Why did I believe this?
Because at the time, I just didn’t perceive it that way. There were no indicators that wealth was possible for me. Everything around me pretty much told me the opposite of that.
Back then I was working really hard, doing all the things, but still ending up living paycheck to paycheck. It didn’t seem to matter that I was trained as an accountant, and I should’ve known how money works. I felt like not only did I not understand the game of money, but also that I was losing the game at the same time.
You can imagine how well that mindset worked for me!
I knew that I had to change something, or I’d be stuck in the same place forever. I had to allow myself to think in a NEW way.
What did I do next? I began to investigate my money mindset. What I discovered showed me what I needed to change how I thought about money. It was the only way to take my mindset to the place I wanted it to be.
The most important shift that I needed to make, however, surprised me a little bit. But it was SO powerful, and I realized that it was the missing ingredient in so many money mindset practices.
The secret ingredient that shifted my money mindset was GRATITUDE.

Now, you might have heard something like this before. You also might be wondering how you can be grateful if you feel stuck where you don’t want to be. Sometimes people even ask me if being grateful for what you have now will actually KEEP you from receiving anything more.
But I can tell you this. Gratitude is one of THE most attractive forces in the Universe. The more you are grateful for what you have now, the more your mindset starts to shift. It creates new thought patterns that help you break out of stuck spaces like NOTHING else.
It was something that I added to my yoga, mindset, and meditation practices, and it was how I made my money mindset finally work.
So how do you add gratitude to your money mindset practice?
It’s a super-simple action step that you can do every day, and I recommend you start doing it today. Simply sit for 5 full minutes each day in GRATITUDE. Pure gratitude. Give thanks for everything you have, everything you are, just everything.
I invite you to let yourself experience gratitude itself. Recognize everything that you have, and be grateful. It doesn’t even need to be about money, or trying to manifest what you don’t have. Just sit in gratitude, and let go of everything else or just 5 minutes each day.
But the intention is to get into that vibe of gratitude, no matter what your situation. Let this become a new habit, keep practicing it every day, and watch how new thought patterns start emerging for you.

Now, here’s a question that I get asked a lot, and it’s an important one…
What happens when you DON’T feel grateful?
Here’s the thing with a gratitude practice. I am NOT telling you to deny your feelings. Far from it. There are times when getting into gratitude can feel pretty impossible, and I get that.
If you feel angry or resentful about your current situation, that’s OK. Let yourself feel those feelings. But instead of clinging to them, try this…
Try observing your feelings instead of judging them. Allow yourself to process them, and let them go. Remember, this is not about pushing down feelings you don’t want. It’s about healing what needs healing, and letting go of what doesn’t serve you anymore.
So as you begin this gratitude practice, I invite you to be the observer of your thoughts throughout the day.
Notice what happens the more you focus on gratitude. If feelings that you don’t want come up, let them be heard, observe them, but don’t cling to them. Then remember all that you have right now to be grateful for. Keep creating a habit of gratitude, and watch what happens next.
The more you do this, the more space you’ll create space for new things to flow into your life, including money! This is how to make your money mindset work, and it’s a game changer.
